Luanda (Angola) *”The state of cooperation between Angola and Belgium and the situation in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), topped the agenda in Saturday’s meeting between the deputy Foreign minister, George Chicoty and visiting Belgian Defence minister, Andre Flahaut.

After the talks with the Angolan authorities in Luanda, the capital, André Flahaut told reporters that the two countries` ministerial delegations discussed the “excellent relations” existing between Angola and Belgium.

The two sides, according to the Belgian Defence minister, share the same view on the situation prevailing in the DRC and expressed optimism at the work being done by the government in office, following the elections in that central Africa country.

“The DRC is going through an important moment of its history, with the inauguration of a new government, with credible, experienced and young leadership,” he underlined, before rating Angola`s role in its stabilisation process as positive.

Meanwhile, the Belgian delegation also met the Angolan Defence minister, Kundi Paihama to review military cooperation between the two countries.

In another development, the president of Guinea Bissau, João Bernardo Vieira, is expected in Luanda on February 27 for a two-day official visit to Angola at the invitation of his Angolan counterpart, José Eduardo dos Santos.

The two presidents last met in August last year, during the summit of heads of state of the Portuguese Speaking Community (CPLP), that comprises Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, São Tome and Príncipe, Portugal, Brazil and East Timor.”*
