Yusuf Ooro, an aspiring candidate for Kisumu Central constituency whose campaign team was attacked by rowdy youths at Mamboleo stage has extended an olive branch to his opponents whom he believed were behind the woes.

His Landover one ten model was badly ripped off when youths stoned his motorcade in Mamboleo. Some of his supporters were injured in the ensuing melee .police from kondele police station and others from the QRT moved in to stop the attack. One of the youths were later arrested.

Yusuf has suffered repeated election related violence in the past which left him with huge losses . in 2007 his home was invaded and his property worth millions of shillings destroyed including vehicles. He was also a victim of more election violence in 2013, his main crime was his decision to support jubilee is cord dominated area.

In 2007 he was vying for a civic seat which he lost and in 2013 he was gunning for the Senate seat in siaya on jubilee ticket. He lost to James Orengo.

This time he is running as an independent candidate and he has repeatedly told his supporters that he is behind Raila Odinga, the ODM supremo.

" I defected from jubilee and even posted my resignation letter online on my Facebook page but some of my opponents who are panicking about myentry into this race continue to brand me jubilee mole which I am not." He said.

Ooro said he has forgiven his tormentors and has pledged to carry out campaigns free of violence.

" All the people want is visionary leadership. Our people are not interested in who can sponsor violence more.they only need development and jobs for the many unemployed youths. I’ll not be intimimidated and diverted so as to lose my focus." Said Ooro.

He has conducted numerous incident free roadshows and meet the people tours in areas such as kondele, Obunga, Nyalenda and Manyatta where the other candidates had a run in with rowdy youths.

Ken Obura ,the current MP was chased away in kondele. Another aspirant met the same fate in Nyalenda.

Kisumu, just like in most parts of the country is known to witness polls related chaos. It gets hot as candidates prepare for ODM primaries which is normally hottly contested because amwin at the nomination can be as good as winning the main election.

Yusuf a business man who grew up in in Kisumu has a good network and commands a good support amongst the youths And the informal settlement dwellers who feels he is one of their own.

His entry has caused panic into most of the political camps and has an impact on seasoned politicians like Onyango Oloo who is also interested in the seat.

Although he expected that his detection into ODM would convince many of the locals to bakc him, not much has changed for Oloo.

Obura was also accused of going to bed with jubilee government and at one point he was seen to be among the young members of parliament from Nyanza who were pushing for the ODM leadership change . Together with Dalmas Otieno they even formed an outfit called kalausi which died even before it take off.

You are not saints as you claim: NASA four urged to come clean over past graft allegations or stop finger pointing

Posted by African Press International on March 1, 2017

By our reporter.

NASA luminaries have been asked to clear their names over past graft allegations instead of consistently portraying the jubilee brigade as the most corrupt.

Speaking to journalists in Kisumu on Tuesday last week the jubilee Kakamega point person who is also a Governor aspirant Mabel Muruli lashed out at the four top NASA leaders whom she dismissed as lacking in fresh ideas and cannot purport to offer an alternative leadership.

She said the four have all been in government holding various senior positions at certain points in time and did very little that they can speak about in terms of tangible development.

" they are of no fresh ideas . there is nothing new NASA has to offer . they must stop double standards and clear their names before Kenyans can be convinced that they should lead this country " she remarked .

Muruli claimed that Moses Wetangula was yet to convince Kenyans of what role he played in the Tokyo’s embassy scandal, while Kalonzo Musyoka also needed to speak up about the allegations that he grabbed NYS land in yata . She claimed Raila Odinga still also have issues about his family’s acquisition of molases plant in Kisumu and his role on the Triton saga. She also said Musalia Mudavadi was also alleged to have grabbed cemetery land meant for expansion of Langata cemetery when he served as minister for local government.

The four have in the past distanced themselves from these accusations terming them politically instigated to taint their images .

Throwing her weight behind Uhuru and Ruto, Muruli claimed that the duo came into government with the ICC challenge hanging on their necks and had little time to concentrate on governance.

" Even with the ICC challenges, the two managed to run the government within the budget since donors too had suspended support to the country. They only had two and a half years to bring development and they have tried on electricity, road network among other things.. They deserve another term to complete what they have initiated uninterrupted. " Muruli said.

She also asked NASA supporters to allow other politicians from other political parties to campaign in the NASA backyards without violence.

" let us play politics of maturity. Let us allow people with divergent opinions to also sell their policies and campaign freely. Let both jubilee and NASA teams visit any part of the country and campaign without being barred by supporters " she advcied .

The deputy president William Ruto was recently well received in Kakamega county. The DP and his entourage visited Lukuyani, Malava and Lugari where several people turned up to listen to what he had to say.

Muruli claimed the huge crowds that the DP got was a testimony that the people of luhyia land had no problem with jubilee.

" luhyia land is not a NASA stronghold as people think. The locals have realized that it is important to work with government than being in the opposition. We in jubilee are soon harvesting from the other parties because there will be major defections " she said.

She took issue with the Wickliffe Oparanya’ s leadership at the county claiming the people of Kakamega are fed up and needed change.

" We demand accountability. He has failed the people of Kakamega.Education is in a mess, he has failed the teachers, doctors and farmers. He has failed in every sector and doesn’t deserve another term. If elected I’ll turn around this County. I’ll deal firmly with corruption, I’ll not dish out jobs to relatives and contractors will nolonger need to offer kickbacks to win tenders. My tenure will be a break from the past" she added.

Muruli is firmly in jubilee, a party which is not considered popular in the region but she insists they’re making in-roads and will shock many after the August polls this year.
