POLICE in KISUMU are hot on the heels of a group of bouncers from a local club who beat
and seriously injured an Administration police officer. The bouncers broke the officer’ s leg and inflicted severe head injuries on Monday night.
Speaking to the media on Thursday the Kisumu AP boss Karanja Muiruri said they have already arrested one suspect who will be taken to court.
The suspect, Ali Abdalla Onyango is a bouncer at Mamba Hotel in Kisumu
Muiruri said Onyango was among the bouncers who attacked a junior AP officer
Benson Nganye at the club on Monday.
Muiruri and AP inspector Augustine Kamaria led other officers to visit Nganye at his house at
Railways AP line where he is recuperating.
“Already we have arrested one suspect, a bouncer who together with his colleagues attacked the officer,” said Muiruri.
Nganye was in the company of three other friends at the club when he was attacked and had to be rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral hospital by a reveler.
The officer is said to have left his friends at the club to receive a relative who was outside but the bouncers picked an argument with him claiming he was leaving with an empty beer bottle.
A Waiter who did not wish to be identified for fear of losing her job said it was at that point the club security at the main entrance pounced on him.
A guard at a nearby yard who witnessed the attack on Monday night said about 20 youth
roughed up Nganye over unknown reasons and beat him “senselessly” outside the club.
“A good Samaritan, a lady later hired a motorbike and rushed him (Nganye) to hospital,”
said the guard.
Mamba Hotel and Club proprietor Charles Odunga was unavailable for comment and his cell phone went unanswered.
Muiruri accused some club bouncers of attacking revelers instead of
safeguarding the clubs.
He pointed out that bouncers are supposed to enforce order in the clubs and not
to attack people.
“It is illegal for anybody to take the law in his or her hands. We shall follow the matter to its
conclusive end,” said the AP boss.
There was commotions at the club on Tuesday morning when officers drawn from the crack QRT went to effect arrest but were allegedly repulsed by the same security guards at the premises. The police overpowered them and managed to arret the bouncer who was to later face court charges.
