Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Kazuyuki Nakane to attend the Ministerial Meeting of the Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Asian-African Conference (Bandung Conference)

TOKYO, Japan, April 17, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ — Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Kazuyuki Nakane is scheduled to visit the Republic of Indonesia from April 19 to 21 and to attend the Ministerial Meeting of the Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Asian-African Conference (Bandung Conference).

At this meeting, representatives from Asian and African regions will discuss how to best cooperate with one other to promote world peace and prosperity.

During his visit to Indonesia, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Nakane is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings including with H. E. Mr. HOR Namhong, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as H. E. Mr. SALEUMXAY Kommasith, Lao Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs.

(Asian-African Conference (Bandung Conference))

The Asian-African Conference,co-hosted by Indonesia, India, Myanmar (the former “Burma”), Pakistan and Sri Lanka (the former “Ceylon”), was held in 1955 to promote solidarity among newly independent former colonies, mainly in Asia. Twenty-nine countries and regions from Asia and Africa, including Japan, participated in this conference and adopted the final communiqué, including the “10-point Bandung Principles”.

In 2005, the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Asian-African Conference was held to celebrate this historic event. Japan was among the 104 countries and regions that participated in this commemoration, and was represented by the then Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi at the Summit meeting, and by the then Minister for Foreign Affairs Nobutaka Machimura at the Ministerial Meeting. The declaration “New Asian-African Strategic Partnership” was adopted in this meeting.
