Raila Odinga must concede defeat – Mr Kenyatta and his running mate Mr William Ruto wins the presidential elections

It has been reported that Mr Odinga wants to contest the results. This behaviour may cause violence as was experienced in 2007 elections when the same man refused to concede defeat when Mr Mwai Kibaki was declared the winner. Mr Odinga at the time called on his supporters to go to the streets and many Kenyans lost their lives.

President Kibaki has congratulated Mr Kenyatta and wished him well in his new role as Kenya’s fouth president.

This time around he must concede defeat and save Kenyans from deaths.

IEBC’s Chairman Mr Hassan declares Uhuru Kenya’s fourth president – Raila Odinga becomes the looser.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of Kenya declares Mr Uhuru Kenyatta as the duly elected President of the Republic of Kenya after defeating Mr Raila Odinga.

Chairman Isaack Hassan made the announcement at the Bomas of Kenya Saturday.

He said Mr Kenyatta fulfilled the constitutional requirements after garnering 6,173,433 votes, that represnts 50.07 per cent of the total votes cast. The new president got 25 per cent in 32 of Kenya’s 47 Counties. The constitution stipulates that one must get 25% in 24 counties and win 50% plus one.

Mr Hassan presented the certificate of presidential results to the winner as his supporters chhered wildly.

During the presentation of the certificate was accompanied by Deputy president elect William Ruto. Mr Kenyatta’s wife Margaret Kenyatta, who is the First Lady designate was at the function.
