Kenya’s Presidential aspirant Ms Martha Karua urges voters to reject her opponents Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto

Posted by African Press International on January 1, 2013

Ms Martha Karua, a Presidential aspirant in this year’s general elections has asked the Kenyan voters not to elect Mr Uhuru Kenyatta and his running mate Mr William Ruto because they are facing cases at the International Criminal Court in the Hague.

She argues that the two men should clear their names first before trying their luck  seeking the top job in the land. The two, however, argue that they are innocent until proven guilty and it is their right to contest for the seat.

The two have formed the Jubilee coalition – Uhuru‘s TNA party and Ruto’s URP – coming together. In forming the coalition, they say that will help them win the presidency in the first round. There are 7 other candidates eyeing the same position

They are now waiting for the court in Kenya to rule on whether they should run after some NGO activists moved to court to request for orders to bar them, from contesting, on integrity issues saying they should wait until they are cleared by the ICC. On the other hand, the ICC has stated that it is up to the Kenyans to decided whether the two should run while waiting for their day in the ICC which is set to be on the 10th and 11th of April this year. The elections in Kenya takes place on the 4th of March this year – a little over a month before the two are to face te ICC judges.

It has been reported that US Secretary of State Mrs Hillary Clinton, who was being treated for dehydration and an injury caused by a serious fall  where she hit her head, is in hospital suffering from a serious blood clot in the brain.

Doctors are watching her every minute before making any conclusion on her future health. She has to take off from work for quite sometime as she waits for her term as the Secretary of State to come to an end.

Blood clots can occur when a person travels a lot – flying, as has done for four years now after being appointed to the position by President Barack Obama.

She decided not to take a second term as Secretary of State. President Obama has given the job to Senator Kerry who will assume the role in January after Obama has been sworn in for the second term in office.
