A Three day sensitization workshop for civil society organizations and media practitioners on human rights issues has ended on Friday 17th October 2008 at the Kairaba Beach Hotel in Banjul, The Gambia. The workshop was jointly organized by the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Exce3cutive Director of ACDHRS Madam Hannah Forster emphasized the relevance of the training workshop to the work of the civil society organization and the media as it deals with topics that could help them to conduct their work efficiently. She said information is very important and effective to the lives of the people and urged the media to go for information but should not wait for it. Madam Forster stressed the need for collaboration between the media and civil society. We cannot work in isolation, she said.

The ACDHRS Executive Director concluded that the three day workshop heralding the beginning of the work. Delivering the closing remarks, the acting Director of the NGO Affairs, Musukuta Sonko said that the three day workshop is a step in the right direction for CSOs and media practitioners for them to collaborate. She said that the knowledge gained would enabled them to do their work easily and also know their rights and duties so as to abide by the laws.

Madam Badjie urged participants to disseminate the information to their colleagues who could not attend the training as the information will go a long way towards achieving their goals.

The vote of thanks on behalf of the participants was delivered by Mr bakery Badjie of the child protection alliance (CPA).
