Lagos (Nigeria) Muslims in Nigeria, Wednesday joined worshippers around the world in celebrating the birth anniversay of Prophet Mohamed, a day that was declared a national holiday but with no significant event set aside besides a procession by Islamic student groups at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos, South West Nigeria.

A devote Muslim, Alhaji Rahman Abdul said the commemoration of the birth of Prophet Mohamed is very important although not celebrated with pomp like the eid-ul-fitri.

He explained that the idea of celebrating the Prophets birthday was proclaimed several years in Egypt to play out like the commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas Day, said Alhaji Abdul.

There is zero activity to mark the day apart from family outing, which takes place on any public holiday, said Abdul.
