TRC Delegation Visits Mass Graves in Rural Liberia

Several mass graves of innocent persons massacred during the Liberian civil war were visited in three sub political divisions of Liberia by a delegation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Liberia currently on tour of rural Liberia.
The delegation headed by the Chairman of the Commission, Cllr. Jerome Verdier visited mass graves at Needowe in Bilibokree, Juazon Statutory District in Sinoe County, Kamah Bloh and Barwon towns in Rivercess County.
During these visits, the Liberias Truth and reconciliation Commission Chairman consoled residents of the areas, and told them to forget their bitter experiences and part take in the TRC process which he said, Is the best way to heal the wound of Liberians.
The TRC boss noted that the mandate of the Commission is to make sure that there will be no more war, and that Liberians will co-exist and sustain the peace that have been attained.
He stressed that to avoid the recurrence of war in the country , Commissioners of the TRC were traveling all over Liberia to seek and find out from Liberians their experiences during the war, after which, recommendations will be made to the government.
The TRC boss maintained that the process of sustainable peace and reconciliation is not only the responsibility of the nine commissioners, but a national endeavor which every Liberian must embrace and participate in by telling their true story about what happened during the countrys ugly past.
During the Liberian civil war over 500,000 persons were killed, while several others fled for their lives to foreign lands.
