Kibaki attends Ford People conference – Nyachae drumming support

President Kibaki yesterday attended the Ford People National Delegates Conference (NDC) to drum up support for his re-election.

As a stranger in Ford-Ps NDC, President Kibaki attended the meeting to amplify the partnership in the umbrella Party of National Unity (PNU) ahead of his campaign launch tomorrow.

The meeting held at Bomas of Kenya was to decide who to support for PNU ticket.

Five other parties under the umbrella PNU are due to hold their NDC today, with the same agenda.

More than 1,000 Ford-P delegates led by party leader Simeon Nyachae received President Kibaki shortly after 5pm.

Mr Nyachae had earlier received 15 defectors from other parties.

Shirikisho Party of Kenya is expected to hold its NDC in Mombasa today.

Secretary-general Yusuf Abubakar yesterday said plans for the conference, set be held at Khumbar Hall, Mwembe Tayari, had been finalised.

Top on the agenda will be endorsement of partys participation in PNU coalition on whose ticket President Kibaki is set contest.
