Abidjan (Cote dIvoire) The Ivorian national basketball squad will take part in the twentieth edition of the African Basketball Championship (CAN) in Senegal later this month to defend the title but without its professionals, national technical director, Ddjadi Clment told APA on Sunday.

“We could be stripped of our professionals because they have started classes and it is very hard to have them with us during this competition. And even more difficult, this coincides with recruitments in European and other leagues which makes it difficult for their clubs to release them,” Clment said.

“We have the girls we need for a good CAN without the professionals. We will continue on the drive of the All-Africa Games where we had a good ranking,” he added.

The Ivorian delegation will arrive in Dakar on 17 September. Cote dIvoire will play in the group with hosts Senegal, Tunisia, Mozambique, Mali and Madagascar.
