Breaking news: USA releases list of banned Kenyan top politicians and businessmen

Posted by africanpress on February 15, 2008

Many are waiting to learn the names of those who have been banned from entering the US by the US government. It is very sad that Kenyan politicians and businessmen depend much on US goodies and when they do not toe the US line they get punished by being refushed entry.

According to a US official in Nairobi (named withheld), it is now finalised and those who received letters of warning have been placed on the list of those not to be allowed entry to the US.

The embassy official confirmed to API that the following will now be denied entry permanently:

1. William Ruto - ODM politician

2. Musalia Mudavadi - ODM politician

3. Martha Karua - Minister for constitutional affairs

4. Mutula Kilonzo (legal advisor to PNU)

5. Gideon Moi (son of former president Daniel Moi)

6. Murungaru (former Internal Security Minister)

7. Kiraitu (former justice minister, now Energy minister)

8. Kabando wa Kabando

9. Former President of Kenya Daniel Moi

10. Nathaniel Tum

11. Kipyator Biwott

12. Kajwang

13. Uhuru Kenyatta

14. Justice Gicheru

15. Commissioner of Police Ali

16. Mbugua, The Administration Police Commandant

Oburu Odinga’s name was in the original list but was removed after Raila Odinga requested Barack Obama the US presidential candidate to intevene.

The official says, Obama asked the embassy not to embarrass the Odinga family and as a result, Oburu’s name was removed from the list.

The officer has promised to give API a full list in two days time. The list, he says contains 23 names in total.

Those who have been banned will not be allowed into the US. The US official has told API that the Embassy in Nairobi has written letters to the UK, France and Germany asking them not to allow the individuals entry.

When asked whether his country recognises President Kibaki, the officer told API to read between the lines on what the UK ambassador Adam Woods has stated, adding - we normally have the same views with the UK.

Let me ask you guys. Must someone go to US or UK in their life time? Is it like Mecca for the Islam? If not I presume this has no major effect on the named politician. But if their children must go to US or UK or anywhere in Europe then I presume they have no choice but to auction our country once again to these hyenas in the US & the so called first world. Lucky me because I’m contended being a Kenyan and leaving in Kenya, for better or for worse. While it’s a good idea for the international community (read Europe and US) to excerpt pressure on the politicians to arrive at a decision, I believe Kenyans alt to be given some breathing space to maneuver. But when one has a curfew imposed on their travel or that of their family members, some of whom may already be in those countries then we are in trouble as Kenyans. These guys will rush to make some semblance of treaty just to lift the nozzle off their necks. This kind of treaty will be so short lived that in the next five years we shall find another set of politician grumbling and complaining of this treaty just like the current ones have been complaining about the IPPG “gentleman’s agreement”

I HAVE TO ASK TWO QUESTIONS THAT KEEP BOTHERING ME TO NO END!

1,IS RAILA A TRAITOR!!!(refering to this mans history,82 coup, and now.How much did he sell kenya for??)

2,WHY IS UK AND US SO KEEN FOR LEADERSHIP CHANGE,(read what have they to gain, what are they after)
One thing is for sure, the idea off how much change the country underwent in 5 years was scaring to the WEST,also kenya being a regional economic powerhouse, was not acceptable at all to the WEST,we had paid off IMF,WORLD BANK,loans in half, manage to write off bad debts in our favour.
I do know that our dealing with CHINA,SOUTH KOREA,was worring BOTH UK,AND US,buying MILLITARY EQUIPMENT,from the said countries is a good example,WHY IS UK SO DETERMIND TO SEE CHANGE IN GOVERNMENT NO MATTER THE HUMAN COST TO KENYA,just to make sure that CHINA can not step its foot in kenya or EAST AFRICA region.
So they chose a weak link in RAILA, his desair to become president at any cost.WHICH BEGS THE QUESTION HOW MUCH DID HE SELL HIS SOUL,AND COUNTRY TO ARCHIVE AN END.
JUST SO YOU KNOW CHARLES NJONJO IS HIS BENEFACTOR!

  3. Kichwambaya Says:

What are the Americans trying to do? Is this another political game that the guys in wshington are playing?

  4. Emali Wanyama Says:

Wana behave ni kama wao hupeana the breath of life. All this threats, surely it is not necessary for one to go to the US to survive.
Does anyone know why Karua and Uhuru are on the list? I know most of the others have to do with corruption and some are inciters for violence.

  5. Anthony Says:

    Ondimu,

I am really amazed by your reasoning. Its unfortunate that you are unable to appreciate that what we are dealing with at the moment is not about Kikuyus and Luos. I would care less whether the president of Kenya is Kibaki or Raila.

What worries me is the attempt by the West to impose leaders on us and dictate to us how we should govern ourselves. Your comparison of struggles for democracy in the 90′ is not entirely honest.

The 1992 general election results were hotly contested by Kenneth Matiba who accused Moi of rigging the elections. During the period prior to the elections many Kikuyus in the rift valley were evicted and their homes burnt. I never herd any foreign Embassy including the British High Commissioner raise up his finger against the Moi government.
This was in spite of an alleged rigged election.

Again the 1997 general elections raised a similar storm when Raila Odinga and Mwai Kibaki accused Moi of rigging. Raila was subsequently offered a cabinet position while Kibaki went to court. Again no western diplomat raised a finger or even demanded the formation of a grand coalition like they are demanding today.

It honestly does not require a mind of a genius to tell that what the west is doing is practicing double standards. Does it mean that a crime committed by a Kikuyu is bigger than a crime committed by a Kalenjin or a Luo. Where were their voices in 1992 and 1997. Does it mean the voice of Kenyan people did not matter then?

The only reason why they are pushing for their own self prescribed solution and settlement, is not because they love Raila its because they can exploit the un - easy relationships between the two leaders to push for their own interests.

Moi wholly served their interests and in spite of his corrupt regime completely improvising the majority of Kenyans and retarding the economic growth they had no problem with him retaining power whether through rigging of elections or otherwise. Now that Kibaki’s regime has revived economy and purchased police vehicles from Japan rather than purchasing the inflated Land Rovers, they must now as a matter of urgency ensure that he does not serve another five years. This is hypocrisy of the highest order and other African states should be warned of possibly what await them in not so far a future.

  6. kevin omoro Says:

who doesn’t know that all this guys will do whatever it takes them to fullfill their stomachs. i like and appreciate what the foreign government has done so far, they should be bared forever.so corrupt.

  7. Anthony Says:

    STOP INTIMIDATION

Some countries in the west have now perfected the art of intimidation and psychological black mail on our elected leaders and politicians. Every time they don’t agree with whatever we do they quickly threaten to slam visa bans to their countries. These countries should completely stop intimidating our leaders whether in government or in opposition.

We need to remind them that the forty two ethnic communities in Kenya settled here long before the British and their irks came around knocking to colonize us. By the time they came, we had interacted through trade, we had intermarried, we had fought wars and we had made peace. The West should not attempt to exploit our current weakness to further their selfish interests in this country. The fact that last year’s General elections results culminated into violence and tribal animosity does not imply that Kenya is now a free for all country. The west may be looking to seize this opportunity in order to teach the rest of the African countries that they cannot emancipate themselves from the economic yokes imposed by the west by running to China and the far East. But I do however wish to remind the West that African countries ultimately emancipated themselves from the colonial yokes and whether they like it or not, eventually Africa shall emancipate itself from the economic yokes of the West.

Our leaders may not be geniuses or angles but we do believe that they have the ability to solve even the biggest of the problems that may inflict this beloved Nation. Western diplomats and their affiliated bodies should therefore fourth with cease from issuing threats to our elected leaders.

I dare ask, why is the Kenyan so called “political crisis” so important to the west? How main people are loosing their lives in Iraq, Dafur, Pakistan, Afghanistan to name but a few, have the western countries revoked the visas of their leaders? Have they threatened economic sanctions? I think it’s the high time that the rest of the world powers such as Russia, India and China as well as other African Countries stood up with the Kenyan people and tell off the western bullies. Kenya and Africa is no longer a colony of the west. This onslaught by the West of our sovereignty and self determination must be resisted by every African on the African soil and else where. We shall never again accept to kiss the boots of the western imperialists. Washindwe!!!!!!

  8. ondimu Says:

Listen whoever you guys are.The truth is so naked that it even scares me.This all problem has been caused by the arrogance of some kikuyus over a long long time. They regard other communities as second hand citizens. The violence that erupted after the infamous anouncement of the flawed results was as a result of frustration for stealing the hope of the majority by an evil minority.therefore to link it to people like ruto is being naive.People like martha karua who get an orgasim when they see the country burn should get not only international travel bans but also house confinement.Martha karua is a picture of lucifer the old serpent.Jezebel indeed.I dont understand how she will live with her concience if she becomes the reason for a future prolonged civil war.God forbid. Are the few wise men if any left in PNU SEEING WHAT THIS WOMAN IS DOING TO THE COUNTRY WITH HER CARELESS TALK?

  9. ondimu Says:

This time round the western world is trully a saviour and a friend in need for kenya.Unless you are an ignorant kikuyu and your sence of reason is impared, there is no way kenya will come out of this nightmare unless the super powers interven.During the 1992 and 1997 struggles for democracy the kikuyus in DP were crying to the british and americans to pressure moi to yield. They helped them then. Now they have all of a sudden become enemies coz they are at the sit of power.Double stds or terrible hypocricy.Choose one.

  10. Jim Says:

It is immoral by all standards to subject people to psychological stress by denying them visa. The US citizens especially the US ambassador in Kenya behaves like small kings running kenya. German, Norwegian, UK and US ambassadors should be expelled.

  11. Emali Wanyama Says:

    Jim
Kenyans should not dance to the tune of western nations, and by the way, what psychological stress does one get for being denied a visa to the west?

    Ondimu
You seem to be one of those who think that the mzungus are your saviours. Do you think they wlll help build Kisumu? Or the displaced from western since they don’t seem to like Kikuyus? These people are serving their own interests. They have no use for us Africans. If they did, they would have found a solution for Zimbabwe and Somalia, and Congo where people are being killed every day. Maybe there is oil in kenya and they know it while we don’t. That is the only reason they express so much interest in the affairs of a third world country.

  12. Jotham Kidundo Says:

    This list is CRAP….not true.

  13. Emali Wanyama Says:

    Editor,
When can we have the full names of people on the list and do you know if this is a genuine list?

  14. aggrey Says:

i support the international communities for baring these men and women from traveling they should also include their children and extented families all together.the list should also increase to iclude.s.kivuitu,d mutua,m wetangula, mwai kibaki,a kamunya, poghiso, daniel moi and friends and children, keyatta family,mr kihara mtu.eck commissioners ,police commissioner and their families.rgds aggrey

  15. Angela Says:

These guys are not worth the money, of course the ODM guys should not be on that list.

  16. Andrew Says:

Raila is not a traitor, reply to that question..and i believe the list cannot be all that truthful, because where is Michuki, Kivuitu and the other PNU crooks…wacha…

  17. pkinyari Says:

Andrew, Angela, and Aggrey & Ondimu I applaud you for your staunch support for ODM. It is obvious that It’s so hard for you guys to see the log in your eyes. Obviously it’s a lot easier to see the specks in the PNU’s Martha and the like eyes. Let me remind you that the current re-organisation in ministry of water that may soon bring some water to your home if it hasn’t brought already some already were as a result of her restructuring the ministry of water. I know you’re going to hit the roof saying you do not have water yet, But even where I hail from we do not have water yet, but there are prospects of the the water boards finally delivering that vital commodity. The implementation of performance contracting governance has obvious added some impetus on this.

Demonizing one community for the sake of proving that ODM/Raila has the support of the rest 41 tribes is a farfetched ideology. It’s propaganda that does not hold any water. And obviously not anchored on facts. One only needs to look at the parliamentary poll results and presidential results to prove otherwise. May be what we all need to agree is that, Since ODM was never prepared to take the position of chief opposition party in the event that they lost the election, Then on humanitarian ground PNU can accommodate them to save their face. After all, they went promising heaven to their supporter whom they cannot now face yet again to tell them they lost the election. Remember most of these guys have suffered presidential loss more than once. Ruto lost when he backed the wrong Horse (Uhuru in 2002) Raila or his team has now lost three times 92, 97 and now 2007. How do you expect them to accept to remain in opposition, having overstayed there, and having realized that their supporters may soon loose their faith in them. After all this was viewed by many as the best chance for Rail to make it to the house on the hill. These characters want to re-event themselves by acquiring a new life which they can hopefully use in 2012 to silicate for votes.

Perhaps this could work, But lo! I think Kenyans are now more enlighten than ever before. The guy who is currently spending countless hours in the lake fishing, only for the same fish to rot on the beech just because someone hasn’t made it to Kisumu to buy fish knows far too well who is to blame for his current mess. The farmer who cannot sell his milk because no track is available to pick the same from his area due to closed roads and insecurity knows too well why he cannot deliver milk. The poor man in the village who cannot take is children to the now subsidized secondary school because he lost the manual job as tea picker just because his employer was hacked to death or chased away knows exactly who caused his current mess. What about the guy who thought he was fighting a genuine cause for liberation, chasing away perceived “foreigners” but ended up losing a limb or his kinsman, doesn’t he already knows exactly why he was killed. After all the war he was promised will deliver them from poverty has ended up creating some plumb jobs for his member of parliament (Deputy PM). These guys need all the help they can get to redeem their lost face. The businessman and foreign nations who gambled with their support for ODM out of assurance that the opinion polls sponsored by ODM were a true reflection of the voters opinion, only for the actual election to confirm otherwise. From this back drop I can understand ODM when they bow down to even accept the left over ministries and a prefect minister in the name of a prime minister.

MR. CASEY: Okay. Well, good afternoon, everybody. I don’t have anything to start you out with, so let’s see what’s on your minds.

QUESTION: Yeah, let me take you to Kenya now.

    MR. CASEY: Okay.

QUESTION: The – I saw the statement that you issued – the Secretary of State issued today. It does look that you are really disappointed about the developments there. My reading was that you are saying to them if you don’t reach a coalition as soon as possible, we’ll slap you with sanctions. Is that a good reading? And how long are you still prepared to give them time? This thing has been going on since the 27th of December. It’s almost two months and those guys are still (inaudible).

MR. CASEY: Well, as I mentioned to those of you that were here this morning, the Secretary did have an opportunity to speak with former Secretary General Kofi Annan and got an update on the status of his talks. As you know, those talks have not yet produced a agreement on a unity government, which is absolutely essential to implementing the rest of the agreement, including dealing with some of the longer-term political issues that properly need to be addressed to prevent the kinds of conflict that we’ve seen as a result of this election happen in the future.

And we are very disappointed that the leadership in Kenya, both President Kibaki and Mr. Odinga, have not been able to reach an agreement. The Kenyan people deserve better than what they are getting from their political leadership right now. They turned out in huge numbers on election day to cast their ballots to choose a new government. The election, as we all know, was extremely close. There were serious incidents of abuse and of fraud that were committed there. This process that the AU has been working on and that we have endorsed will help deal not only with the immediate problem of establishing a new consensus government for Kenya, but will also help deal with those longer-term issues that are out there. And it’s unfortunate that the two leaders have not been able to reach an agreement.

In terms of follow-on U.S. actions, as you saw, you know, we are looking at a range of possible actions, as the Secretary said, and that will be, in part, based on what conclusions we draw about who is responsible for lack of progress there. As you know, we have sent letters to a number of Kenyans explaining to them that they may have their visa privileges revoked. That, I would look at as a first step and certainly, if we – there is not an agreement between the parties, then I expect you will see other measures taken as well.

    QUESTION: Thanks.

    MR. CASEY: Thanks, guys.

you seem to be ahead of the americans themselves!

they released 10 names and you already have over 15. Brilliant!

    this obama-oburu-raila thing is crap

i know of uhuru, thuo and karume as recipients.

its curious that ODM personalities are first on your list. any justification?

editor, also please configure a spell-check for the benefit of some of my fellow bloggers.it is irritating to read bad spelling (especially on basic vocabulary)-JEAN

it is a fact that we cannot do without foreigners. someone says that we do not need them then applauds Kibaki for buying cheap low quality equipment from China. i thought China was a foreign state. or is it in Bumula?

these guys do not resort to China coz of our benefit.China does not give a hoot whether we die or not, they are interested in selling their cheap batteries and electronics to us.

Kibaki imports cheap equipment from them since such equipment will breakdown sooner than they are at kilindini (or jkia) then the government will source for cheap spare parts from the same China.

mark you both the equipment and spare parts will be at inflated prices.

show me a police mahindra and i will show you a scandal.

when i show you a police landrover, you will see a clean deal.

ask the people of darfur and taiwan how china works!

I dont understand why this “Oburu odingas” name was deleted. The reason given there is ati to avoid odingas family to be embarassed.Kama hes on the list let his name appear, kama hes innocent then he has to be a proud man!!

And u obama what kind of a picture are u potraying ua not yet the president and yet it shows what ua capable of!!

You respond as if you have the evidence on ur fingers…portray some little sense of responsibility.

  25. jww Says:

Has anyone of you supporting this banning wondered why the president of Iran can still visit united states though they consider him to be in the so called axis of evil. It is funny that hatred has made some of you so bli nd even to the plight of your own country and are ready to serve your colonial masters.

  26. Oliso Says:

As much as we argue and debate about the list of banned heavyweights in Kenyan politics and accuse the west of excessive power, the list is a sham ,its scrap meant to benefit some one’s interest. This writer is just making news so that he can put ugali on the table. So far we are sure of Kabando wa Kabando who went public about his ban. This is propaganda and mark my words you’ll see more personalities on this list. But its not important Kenya is enough to sustain us .our farms are productive and the blessings we have we don’t need to go to western countries to survive.

  27. Wilson Says:

Kenyatta & the Moi families have been embarrased to use obamas excuse for oburu odinga. this is a disgrace obama should keep off kenyan politics and concentrate on his US race. This shows obamas bias on kenyan politics (siding with his luo heritage) unless he does the same for the rest it shows he is also a tribalist. I am dissappointed at you Obama!

  28. linda Says:

This strategy of character assassination and mud-slinging hasnt worked in the current political dispensation, especially in kenya and the USA.
what is there that hasnt been said about RAO and Obama,in this forum and other forums? Read other feeds and see how clinton has tried it in the last one month and the harm its causing her campaigns.

  31. mkenya Says:

This is really annoying! I do not think that Obama has time to lobby the US Embassy in Kenya on behalf of a minnow like double o’s bro! The Communist Railas should stop making Kenyans belive ati they have something in commomn with Obama. They are as related as a monkey is to a fish! Thay should stop name-dropping in the hope that they will awe Kenyans into beliving that they posses the same run-away, ivy league, highly skilled oratorial and therefore astute political skills as Obama. It cannot rub of on them. Why did the Railas not ask Castro for help? Afterall he is the Odingas grandfather and role model for ther politics. Or he thinks Kenyans and the west in general has forgotten where he is comming from? His Hummer actually stands for the hammer and sickle of the old soviet marxist regime. Indeed his people wielded the hammer when push came to shove and used it to kill people while under the opium of changaa provided by the Odingas. Anyway, we all know that his communist plot for Kenya is just another grave for his outdated politics.
