Islamist senior officer welcomes Ethiopian withdrawal

API-Mogadishu, Somalia, The Chairman of the alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia Sheik Sheriff Sheik Ahmed welcomed the Ethiopian solders withdrawal from Somalia which they have began on Tuesday.

 

“The withdrawal of Ethiopian troops from Somali is victory to the all Somali specially Islamist warriors,” Sheikh Sheriff Sheikh Ahmed, the Chairman of Somali Islamic Courts Union and the Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia, told reporters in Cairo.

 

“It [Ethiopian withdrawal] helps the implementation of the Djibouti peace agreement,” the chair man added during the press conference.

 

The chairman stressed that the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and Alliance for Re-liberation of Somali will have one mixed parliament and then elects new Somali president according to the Djibouti peace deal.

 

 

The comments of the chair man comes within hours of Ethiopian troops started vacating from two main bases in Mogadishu on Monday night and early on Tuesday morning.

 

Violence continues in Somalia, which has not had a functioning central government since 1991, despite the signing in June of the UN-facilitated Djibouti Agreement by the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and the Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia (ARS).
Both sides agreed in that pact to end their conflict and called on the UN to deploy an international stabilization force to the troubled nation.
