Warning readers to be careful about “no.funmobile.com” – Beware and warn others not to be fooled by this company
Posted by africanpress on September 2, 2008
The funmobile says it is a leading internet and mobile entertainment provider providing entertainment and infotainment products for both mobile devices and computers. It states that it has offices and operations in Hong Kong, Singapore,Malaysia, Australia, Belgium and USA.
In a way to woe customers it continues to state that it’s broad range of services for mobile devices include mobile marketing, personalization of mobile devices and infotainment for wireless users. funmobile’s mobile services can be found with carrier partners across all continents and directly from funmobile’s highly trafficked internet properties.
Out of bad experience with them, we warn all those persons out there to advise their children to beware of this company. The above Funmobile has a business that is very dangerous to the youth and others who do not carefully take care of the uncalled for messages into the phones coming from the company.
A few days ago a window popped up on my computer screen asking me to place register my mobile number and get free ringing tone. As indicated, everything was free. I therefore trusted the company and registered my mobile number on the screen.
Instead of getting a ringing tone free as promised, I got a pin code and was asked to record it on the given space on the screen.
Still believing in the process that when I placed the pin code as requested then the ringing tone promised to be free would be send to my moblie, I did as requested.
The next thing I saw wasw a message on my mobile telling me that my 30kr had been deducted from my telephone card.
I was very disappointed and very angered by such theft by the Funmobile company.
I have since written 4 emails to them and even called them by phone in search of my 30kr but they are adamant telling me that when I put my mobile number as they had requested, then I became their member and that is why they took 30 kroner.
This is theft! The government should help innocent people being swindled by unscruptulous so-called businessmen.
I will not give up on this case and do wish to ask others who have suffered in the hands of FUNMOBILE to contact us and we launch a court case against them and have the company declared bankrupt.

PRESS STATEMENT: Presidential age limit intended bill by Members of Parliament if passed into law will stop Raila from vying for president in 2012
Posted by africanpress on September 2, 2008
Politicians should carefully weigh their public political remarks to avoid unnecessary animosity in the country.
Statements like those by the Igembe South MP Mithuka Linturi on the age limit of a presidential candidate are unfortunate and should be rebuked by peace loving Kenyans.
I agree with Fisheries minister Dr Paul Otuoma that the MP’s remarks were mainly targeting PM Raila Odinga for the 2012 general elections.
The Igembe South MP and his likes should realize that leadership comes from God through the Kenyan voters who will give their verdict at the ballot box and will vote in their choice regardless of age factor.
Hon Linturi or any other person who may have the same idea of tabling a Bill in parliament to limit the presidential aspirants to the age of 65 years should know that ordinary but majority Kenyans valued leadership qualities in a person and not his/her age.
It should be clear to all that only poor health can hinder someone to aspire for any leadership post and nothing else and I urge the MP or any other politician to realize that the country was still on a healing process and do not therefore need such destructive statements.
Kenyans still remember that at first some politicians talked of Hon Raila not “ able to lead as he is not circumcised and later said blamed his close relationship with the Muslim fraternity in the country”.
Now that they have been proved wrong on Hon Raila’s leadership capability, they now want to turn to age limit to bar him from contesting the country’s leadership in the next general elections.
Such people should even borrow a leaf from the most established democracies in the World like that of USA where a Presidential Candidate for Republicans John Mcain is over 70 years. Even in Africa here, how many leaders are over 70 years of age? Zambian acting President Rulph Banda will be contesting for the country’s presidency this November at the age of 72.
If Hon Linturi has any other reason he has over his motive, let him tell the public but Kenyans will not allow the age limit argument as the same had been defeated even at the Bomas of Kenya. It should be clear to the MP that such actions cab be resisted with full force by peace loving Kenyans.
Hon. Linturi is used by his political god–fathers and he should know that leaders are being chosen by God and not by constitution. Hon. Raila Odinga has proven to Kenyans that he is a leader with integrity that all loving Citizens of Kenya wants.
Thanks and May God Bless Kenya.

Ministers deny violence claim – saying they are innocent and did not finance or encourage post-elections violence in Kenya
Posted by africanpress on September 2, 2008
William Ruto (Raila’s party ODM – minister in the coalition), William Ntimama (Raila’s party ODM – Minister in the coalition), Sally Kosgei (Raila’s party ODM – minister in the coalition), Najib Balala (Raila’s party ODM – Minister in the coalition) and Uhuru Kenyatta (KANU – Minister in the coalition)
By BERNARD NAMUNANE
In Summary
- Ministers accuse KKNCHR of spreading lies and rumours in the report presented to Waki Commission
- Agriculture minister William Ruto described the report as shameless lies, falsehoods, unbelievable, reckless
- Uhuru Kenyatta’s aide said they could only respond to accusations once they have seen the report
- National Heritage minister William ole Ntimama dismissed the report saying it was biased against ODM MPs.
Cabinet ministers accused by the official human rights watchdog of organising or funding the post-election violence have come out angrily protesting their innocence.
In a series of interviews with the Daily Nation, the ministers accused the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights of spreading lies and rumours in the report presented to the Commission of Inquiry led by judge Philip Waki.
Last Friday the Daily Nation exclusively reported details of the allegations against the Cabinet ministers and other leaders.
Now those accused have responded to the controversial report entitled ‘On the Brink of a Precipice: A Human Rights Account of Kenya’s Post-2007 Election Violence’.
Shameless lies
Agriculture minister William Ruto described the report as shameless lies, falsehoods, unbelievable, reckless, and one that is open to legal action. He said the human rights commission had failed in its work and should be ready to provide evidence to prove their allegations.
“I really sympathise with them because they are doomed. If they can concoct falsehoods, then the commission is not worth the piece of paper on which its logo is engraved. It is shameless lies,” he said.
He said KNCHR should live up to the integrity that is required of outfits that defend people’s rights. “For a commission that pretends to fight for human rights, it is unbelievable to do what they have done. They should be factual by going beyond rumours,” he said.
Mr Ruto told the human rights body to be ready to face the consequences of their report, including court action. “They better be prepared to provide the information to back up their allegations. If they have proof, they should go ahead and take us to court and I will be ready to face them. This is not a matter that they will get away with because they have to face the consequences,” he said.
An aide of Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta said they could only respond to the accusations once they have seen the report. “Which report? There have been several reports by the KNCHR. If we see the report you are referring to, then we can issue a comprehensive statement,” Mr Njee Muturi said.
Higher Education minister Sally Kosgei, one of those accused, described the claims as ridiculous and aimed at maligning some ministers and MPs. Dr Kosgei challenged the authors of the report to give details of meetings allegedly called to plan the violence.
“Let them say where the meetings took place, who was present, how much money was involved, who were given the money and where they were sent.
These are attempts to pick up people’s names to malign them. It is totally ridiculous,” she said.
The minister said she was the first politician to call for an end to the violence when it broke out. Immediately the violence broke out, Dr Kosgei said, she rushed to her constituency and worked closely with the police to end the fighting.
“Is that the kind of person who you can say organised violence? If there is such a report, I would happily go to court to clear myself. I challenge them to call and show me the report accompanied by the evidence,” she said.
Then she asked: “Does the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights say they believe the report? This is mere hearsay.”
National Heritage minister William ole Ntimama dismissed the report saying it was biased against ODM MPs. “There are some people who were mentioned in previous versions of the report by the KNCHR. Why are they not included? This is being biased against ODM.”
The Narok North MP denied ever making inflammatory statements and challenged the commission to provide evidence. Mr Ntimama claimed there was no election violence in Narok as claimed. “Everybody knows that there was no fighting in Narok and I want you to tell them to provide evidence,” he said.
Tourism minister Najib Balala described the report as fake and also claimed that it was targeting ODM MPs. He denied giving youths Sh500 each to unleash violence in Mombasa and challenged the report’s authors to provide evidence. For the report to be credible, he said, it should have mentioned all names, beginning with the top leadership of the country.
Report is fake
“I don’t give out handouts because it is a culture I came in to stop. This report is fake,” he said, adding that demonstrations in Mombasa following the announcement of the disputed presidential election results were peaceful and legal.
“The violence in Mombasa… was mass action and only one person was killed because he was mentally challenged and went the wrong way where he encountered police. They can try to victimise and intimidate us but we will take legal action,” he said.
Assistant minister Kabando wa Kabando declined to comment on the incitement claims saying he had not read the report, saying, he had not seen the report.

Muthama advocates for a Raila and the ODM pentagon members prosecution in connection with post-election violence

Prosecute those implicated in poll violence, MPs say
By Patrick Muriungi
Two MPs want individuals associated with post-election violence barred from holding public office.
Kangundo MP Johnson Muthama and his North Imenti counterpart, Mr Silas Muriuki, also called for immediate prosecution of the perpetrators of the violence that rocked the country following last year’s disputed presidential elections.
Muthama criticised the Prime Minister, Mr Raila Odinga, for leading the crusade to have the suspects arrested by police after the violence set free.
“All those who organised and funded the post-election violence must face the law. That is why this county has courts of law. The PM knows the rule of the law exists,” said Muthama.
The MPs were speaking at the MCK Church, Kiringo in North Imenti constituency on Sunday during a harambee in aid of a school project.
“If there is tangible evidence that those mentioned by various human rights bodies were in any way involved in the violence, they should never be given a chance to lead this country,” said Muthama.
The MPs said come 2012, the parties under PNU would be transformed into one political force to effectively counter their ODM opponents in a bid to recapture the presidency.
“High level consultations are going on to unite all the political parties that are under PNU ahead of 2012,” he said.
Muthama revealed that Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Energy Minister, Kiraitu Murungi, Deputy Prime Minister, Uhuru Kenyatta and the North Imenti MP were spearheading the unity talks.
“I have never been comfortable with this Coalition Government. This kind of a power sharing arrangement can never work well,” said Muthama.

Post-election violence in Kenya was well planned and financed, says Coast Provincial top administrator

Waki commission accused of selectively summoning witnesses
Written By:George Kithuka
A section of leaders is now accusing the Waki Commission into the post election of conducting its business selectively.
The leaders from the South Rift say the region bore the brunt of the violence and residents have a right to be heard.
The south leaders led by Bureti MP Franklin Bett hit out at the Waki team for summoning the area DC who he said was not mandated to represent the region in the hearings.
The leaders threatened to reject the commission’s findings if it does not hold sessions in the area.
The commission which started its last two days of public hearings in Mombasa on Monday has already conducted sittings at all major post election violence hot spots.
Coast Provincial Commissioner Ernest Munyi was the first to take the witness stand before the Court of Appear Judge Philip Waki led commission sitting at the Mombasa Municipal Town Hall on Monday.
Munyi told the commission that the violence at the coast, particularly in Mombasa had been planned and appears to have been well financed.
He said gangs of youths who attacked and took people’s property especially from a particular community were well organized.
Munyi said the Majimbo debate prior to the elections was another cause of violence as people from the area felt that their dreams were shattered, after the outcome of the elections.
The PC told the commission that the proposed majimbo system of government had been interpreted by the locals to mean chasing away upcountry people therefore getting access to private land and property.
However Munyi told the commission that he was not able to identify individuals who were behind the financing of the groups that caused violence.
Coast Provincial Police Officer Mwangi King’ori told the commission that police had anticipated that there would be chaos in areas of Kisauni, Likoni, Kwale, Malindi, Garsen and Bura going by the pre-election tension witnessed in the area.
King’ori said police were prepared to deal with the situation though they underestimated the magnitude of the problem.

Kenya: Saitoti on abduction and cattle theft

The government is demanding the return of an abducted boy and several heads of cattle stolen by raiders from Southern Sudan following an attack in Turkana north District last week.
The attack by the heavily armed Topossa cattle rustlers at Mogila location on Friday also left two people dead.
Addressing the press in Nairobi on Monday, internal security minister Professor George Saitoti said the government through the ministry of foreign affairs has written a protest letter to the Southern Sudan government following the raid.
Saitoti stressed the government’s commitment to ending cattle rustling in parts of the country hit by the menace and called for close co-operation from local leaders.
During the incident that took place in the volatile border district on the 24 / 25th of last month, the minister said, 130 heads of cattle were stolen while Kenya police reservists killed eight Topossa bandits.
Saitoti said the attacks and counter – attacks involved heavily armed communities in possession of illegal firearms and the matter was receiving concern from both governments who are taking measures to disarm the communities.
He said to augment efforts by regular security forces to maintain peace the government has deployed a specialized security unit in the area to beef up security.
He said that the provincial security committee will be touring the place this week to asses the situation and submit the report to his office for further action.
The minister also announced the government will deploy more security personnel with necessary tools and equipments to the area to combat cattle rustling.
“I would like to assure the Turkana residents that the government will ensure that cross border livestock raids and internal incidents of cattle rustling are stamped out,” said Saitoti.
“The government has over the last two years intensified peace and reconciliation meetings in the area to stem out the vice and will continue to do so to ensure lasting peace solution and security in the region”, he added.
At the same time, he appealed to local leaders from the region to work closely with the government according to the Naivasha Accord reached on August 16 this year where all the leaders agreed to work with the government to end the cattle rustling menace.
Saitoti’s call comes amid protests from Turkana North Member of Parliament John Munyes who alleged the government was doing little to protect his constituents.
The porous Turkana district border has a history of cross boarder raids and cattle rustling. This year alone dozens of people have died in the raids with hundreds of cattle stolen.

Award winning American actor builds 1bn hospital in Kenya

Daytime Emmy Award winning American actor Anthony Edwards will help build a Ksh 1 billion children’s hospital in Eldoret.
It will be the largest such hospital in Africa catering for children, especially newborns.
Edwards, an actor in the popular America’s drama series ER, unveiled the proposed site of the hospital during the weekend.
The hospital will be based at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and named Shoe4Africa Children’s Hospital.
Edwards said Shoe4Africa, a charity organisation that he heads, has raised funds for the establishment of the hospital.
“We have already raised US$ 15 million (about Ksh 1 billion) for the construction of the hospital which will begin soon,” he said in an interview.
Edwards, a pilot by profession, played the role of a medical doctor, Dr Mark Greene in the medical drama series ER based at the fictional County General Hospital.
He left ER at the end of the 2001-2002 season when his character died of brain cancer.
Edwards said he would use his proceeds from the programme towards the Eldoret hospital.
“This project is very dear to my heart. I love Kenya, I want to do my best for the Kenyan people,” he added.
Edwards said he was saddened by the post election violence that rocked the country early this year.
“During that period, I believe women and their children were the most vulnerable. I hope the establishment of the hospital will help children have a safe place to seek medical attention incase of such an occurrence,” he added.
Lanky blond and balding actor Anthony Edwards’ career reached a pinnacle with his role as the easy-going Dr. Green on the hit NBC television series E.R..
While his rise to fame seems sudden, the actor has been in the business since he was 12 years old.
At that young age, Edwards began acting on stage.
For the next five years he would act in over 30 plays before going to study at the prestigious Royal Academy of Arts in London in 1980.
He also studied drama at USC, Los Angeles. While there he made his feature-film debut in Fast Times At Ridgemont High (1982).
Unlike many actors who are typecast into certain roles in particular genres, Edwards has remained firmly between genres, having played in everything from teen exploitation flicks (Revenge of the Nerds [1984]), and serious drama (Mr. North [1988]), to actioners (Top Gun [1986]) and thrillers (Downtown [1990]).
In 1992, Edwards had a recurring and memorable role as the environmentally-hypersensitive Bubble man on the popular offbeat CBS TV show Northern Exposure.
