Sudanese army denies Chadian accusation

Posted by africanpress on December 1, 2007

Khartoum (Sudan) The Sudanese army on Saturday denied an accusation by the Chadian government that they are helping rebels fighting it in the Sudan-Chad border in the west.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, the army rejected the accusation and said what is happening in Chad was an “an internal affair”.

The statement added that Sudan wanted a stable Chad because of its influence on Darfur in western Sudan.

The conflict in the western Sudanese region of Darfur erupted in February 2003 and has claimed more than 200,000 lives and displaced over two million others.

The Chad government summoned the Sudanese ambassador on Thursday to protest against the recent attacks in its eastern border with Sudan.
