DISGUSTING RELATIVES WHO DO NOT APPRECIATE

Posted by africanpress on June 11, 2007

.
This is a topic that might have touched every Kenyan in diaspora.Kenyans abroad or Africans in general, work so hard so that they can help their relatives back home.At least we send money to support them or tickets to travel to come and join us abroad. Not that we earn so much but some of us that  are good hearted work our  asses out to support our relatives  back home.

Life in Kenya or Africa can be miserable, luck of jobs make it so difficult for them, some spend sleepless nights on the floor lying on cartons since they cannot afford a bed, some live in houses or huts where they can see the moon, the bats and the stars since there is no roof to cover them. Some walk barefooted from home to school or home to work if they have any. Some spend days with no food at all and some walk around with taunted clothes since they cannot afford clothes. For those who are lucky, they have relatives abroad who sends them cash or clothes.

Its unfortunate that they do not realize that it is tough even  for us here until they find themselves here.

We do work so hard so that we can send them tickets to join us,once they are here its our duty to  cater for their accomodation, clothing, train tickets and try our best to get them jobs. Those who are lucky get jobs so fast and they eventually move out and live by themselves.

But…….do we get back the appreciation we deserve? Not in many cases!!!

In many cases we in diaspora, end up having created enemies with our own blood, when they move out….you would hear all the problems that you face at your home with your family being the agenda outside, you would be the most irresponsible person ever lived, you would be the person that have been living abroad for so long and have done nothing, you would be the meanest person on earth….you would be…you would be and you would be….all bad words on earth.

They usually forget where there have been and what they have gone through before they came abroad. As the Swahili says.Kutangulia sio kufika…meaning that by being the first one to migrate abroad does not mean that you would be richer  than the one one who has just arrived,we all have our lucks and  sometimes you would bring a relative abroad, and he would get wealthier than you who have been living abroad for ten years or more. This does not mean that the relative should underrate you or disrespect you…..the fact still remains that the first ticket that was sent to you when you were nothing needs to be respected….and now that you are something be proud of your host and have a wonderful relationship with him/her.There are  many Africans in general who do not talk to their relatives that they helped abroad, its important to have a family like attitude as long as you are very far away from home….and always remember that  mpanda kazi hushuka…..butdoisay!!!!
