For those “Thinking life!”

Posted by africanpress on May 3, 2007

Fact is, when taken correctly,Viagra works for most men. Studies show that it works for up to 4 out of 5 men.

I’ve not got a first in philosophy without being able to muddy things pretty satisfactory.
Sacred cows make the best hamburger.
Trouble springs from idleness, and grievous toil from needless ease.
Nothing is so contagious as enthusiasm.
Hatred is the vice of narrow souls they feed it with all their littleness, and make it the pretext of base tyrannies.
I have spent more than half a lifetime trying to express the tragic moment.
It is not necessary to understand things in order to argue about them.
Teach thy tongue to say I do not know and thou shalt progress.
You may live in an imperfect world but the frontiers are not closed and the doors are not all shut.

I dreamed a thousand new paths. I woke and walked my old one.
If there was no moral evil upon earth, there would be no physical evil.
You campaign in poetry. You govern in prose.
In a world we find terrifying, we ratify that which doesn’t threaten us.

Sweden: He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm

Posted by africanpress on May 3, 2007

By Ole Ngais Jeff

Bagarmossen

My fellow countrymen, allow me a moment of your life and let me reveal my standing point regarding the “political” atmosphere currently spraying the air with, if repelling chocking scent of frustrating misery and moral degeneration of a people in Diaspora that are expected to be the salt and light of the society that needs them so badly. I am ashamed and I deeply apologize to the whole world on behave of family myself and fellow countrymen on the bloggers and other who in somewhat way relay intentions of creating havoc and total chaos in the name of “that’s part of politics” bulldozing the rest of the society with trickster like stories on their blogs without care or moral obligations on what effects they bring about. My fellow concerned people, I might be” forced to swallow” this words the next morning or as soon as I have posted them therefore I only write what I will be able to accommodate.

First- learn to listen

The supreme gift of wisdom demands that liberated men and women shall first learn to listen.

In the news oozing from the Kenyans blogs almost faster than in any other news media, Munala Wa Munala writes and I quote” After examining the fracas that ODM-KS is going through, one may wonder if ODM-KS was genuine from day one in its 12-point programmee. Ms. Sofia Njoroge tried to reflect on the aggression that was displayed openly by people she thought can lead the young generation in Sweden. “ODM-KS has become a freewheel, materialistic, and a place where individual advancement and domination has taken a centre stage” Grownup people like Ngatia were shouting like small children until you wonder if this are the leaders that are supposed to teach our youth to be good leaders? “We have failed our people as a committee and none of us has moral authority to lead Wakenya in Scandinavia”.
In the on going fracas within ODM-KS, Mr. Munala the Secretary of ODM-KS and Ms. Sofia Njoroge the treasurer were threatened by the vice Chairperson Mr. Ngatia. He said, “People who are traitors like the secretary have no place in our modern society”.

Thirst for good governance goes unquenched

Every thought or action by one standard! Is this wise? The word wisdom brings up a picture of gray-haired old men mattering obscure philosophic maxims but that is almost the opposite of what the biblical book of proverbs means. Wisdom is above all practical and down to earth. Young people as well as old can and should have it. Wisdom teaches you how to live. It combines understanding and discipline the kind of discipline an athletic needs in training. It also adds a healthy dose of common sense except that common sense isn’t and never has been common. One does not need to be present in the ODM SK meetings to understand how badly shaped and distortion they must be.

A group of adult family men and women grouping together with the intention to develop strategies for leadership and good governance but all what those intellectuals can produce is a lot of public disturbance, hatred, lies, cries, swearing and coursings all packed together in a parcel that should that should be a working paper for the ODM-KS? Is that the best all those people of respect can produce? And expect Kenyans and other political and religious people to take it and shut up? I haven’t yet said my stand. But I am about to. I am saying that it is time to say NO!! To the nonsense this bloggers feed us with and you cannot tell us not to read or visit your blogs because we all have the freedom to visit and search on the internet, but we also have the freedom to boycott your blogs. You will remember that you re writing about a community that is in peace and able to defend itself. It is high time that you make yourselves some life! Yes you will!!; brothers and sisters, you will continue blogging wisely… and we will visit your blogs and read them with pleasure that they are produced by a black man from my own society! You will make me proud and many more if you will write wisely. You don’t have to be a writer but surely you can be one if you like.

Recognize yourselves first before anybody can recognize you

The apartheid warrior of his time Malcolm X said; the time is here and you are stopping crying and start laughing, stop talking, start working, stop cursing, and start praying. For the strength we need is not from the authorities but from the people. We are the generation of people who will win the war against oppression and dependency syndrome, political chaos and misrule. We must develop a common path to a common purpose. A destination that will make Kenya a independent sovereign state a country with descent people of the 21 centaury. We cannot be recognized by anybody if we do not recognize ourselves, respected by anybody if we do not respect ourselves, No one can support us if we do not support ourselves we will ever stay dependent as long as we do not have the lust for independency. We can develop separated in both ideas and politics with love for one another and cherish the moments we share working for the common goal. We stand in the way of the coming generation destroying their possibility of them ever seeing freedom. And you will be answerable for all the mess you created and left behind for your children.

How do you become a wise person? That person who, will lead Kenyans, to formulate ways to advocate for our economical freedom without applying crude ways like what happened in the neibouring country Zimbabwe. How shall this wise men and women begin to listen first? In order to avoid a situation like that of Zimbabwe? Or you are not learning from mistakes of the past and even taking advantage of the experiences you attained from the Roberts Mugabe’s own created hell? We are all fighting for the same goal.. To live a free live, in a free country with the ability to listen and attain supreme wisdom whether you are young or old.

Bloggers apply dive and rule colonial system

I fail to understand. In the blog, Osewe applies the divide and rule strategy that was applied by the British way back 1890 in East Africa to divide and conquer the black man so that they can rob him of his land which they successfully tamed and emptied her from her natural resources. In Osewe’s world, there are several types of Kenyans in Scandinavia and elsewhere; the following are just but a few; The bad, the Good and the Ugly ones, the famous “Odiangabucks”, The green horns and the Ogangabucks” Please let me not pronounce the names because I can’t or rather I really don’t want to!

Stop talking and start paying attention

Wisdom is freely available to those who will stop talking and start paying attention, to God and his word, to parent, to wise councilors, anybody can become wise. Going back to the book of proverbs, wisdom is not reserved for a brainy elite but becoming wise requires self discipline to study and humbly seek wisdom at every opportunity. If you “eat with an elephant”, you will l personally become a one. Someone mentioned about “KUWA”. If I am not mistaken, the word KUWA directly translates to “GROW” or “BE” What happened to kuwa? How come that no one talks about kuwa? Are all Kenyans silent about KUWA? Are we talking about another Goldenberg?

ODM-KS is not KUWA sofia tells Osewe

In the news of today the 1st of May, on Munala Wa Munala’s blog I quote” Sofia requested all Kenyans to be enlightened and for Osewe, she said that ODM-KS is not KUWA. She requested Osewe in the name of transparency to come out and explain to Wakenya what happened with KUWA properties. Cameras, computers and even a car which belongs to KUWA are no where to be seen. Sofia said that we need to investigate Osewe and know what happened with the KUWA money and its properties. We are going to do our level best to see that the truth comes out to Wakenya in Sweden.” Is Narc –KS aware of this gigantic scandal where Swedish tax payers money has been misappropriated in Sweden by a kenyan organization by the name KUWA?

What actions has the leadership of ODM taken against funds misplacement and misuse of office by KUWA? The leadership of both KUWA and Narc- KS has known about this scandal all the time but they haven’t done anything to settle the case. But I am confused though… the boldness of Osewes blog doesn’t give any impression of fear to be revealed and the ODM-KS hasn’t either shown any interest on the case apart from when they needed it to shut down Osewe. Has the case been reported to the Swedish police?, or the Kronofogde? Are the Tax authority informed of the missing funds? What about the doner ministry of public health? Are they informed? What was KUWA really?

I am pending this for a moment. Because I must take a stand. .. To be continued…

Four presidential candidates contending with outgoing President Amadou Toumani Toure, Tuesday told a joint news conference that they would institute legal proceedings

Posted by africanpress on May 3, 2007

Bamako (Mali) Four presidential candidates contending with outgoing President Amadou Toumani Toure, Tuesday told a joint news conference that they would institute legal proceedings to nullify last Sunday’s poll for being “rigged” and “non transparent,” APA has learnt.

While the presidential side is claiming to win 70% of national votes, based on the “provisional results” of their details account, opposition candidates Ibrahim Boubacar Keita (IBK), Tiebele Drama, Soumaila Maiga and Modibo Sangare all rejected these results and bemoaned what they called an “electoral masquerade”.

Speaking Tuesday on a collective news conference, the members of the “Front pour la Démocratie et la République (FDR) voiced their disagreement over the conditions in which the polls were held last Sunday.

The Chairperson of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) however said that no rigging was recorded.

Fodie Toure recalled candidates that there are some legal means for any claim regarding any reported rigging or irregularity.

But according to the INEC Chairman, “no claim was recorded so far” from its branches that any candidate is free to refer to.

About one thousand international observers were deployed in Mali for the April 29th presidential elections. They all agreed on the “proper organization” of “calm and transparent” elections.

Mano River Union Leaders Rekindled Relationship, Settles Land Dispute Between Guinea, Sierra Leone.

Posted by africanpress on May 3, 2007

From APN Correspondent in Liberia,

J.Brooks

Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone sought to put a decade of civil wars behind them on Monday by reviving a regional bloc which has been stymied by frontier disputes between the West African neighbours.

At a meeting in the Guinean capital Conakry, Guinean Prime Minister Lansana Kouyate urged the heads of state of the Mano River Union (MRU) to resolve problems dividing the three-nation group.

It takes its name from a river which starts in Guinea and forms the boundary between Liberia and Sierra Leone.

“The Mano River Union, which has just undergone a turbulent period of more than a decade, is today embarked on a process of revitalisation which will benefit the development of our countries,” Kouyate said in his opening speech.

High on the list of problems facing the three nations is a territorial dispute between Guinea and Sierra Leone over a patch of land alongside the Makona river, occupied by Guinean troops during Sierra Leone’s 1991-2002 civil war and claimed by both countries.

“None of our countries can achieve its development aims unless all of us work together,” Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf said in a speech before going into a closed-door meeting with her Guinean counterpart Lansana Conte and Sierra Leone’s Ahmed Tejan Kabbah.

Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo also attended as an observer.

Founded in 1973 to encourage economic cooperation between Liberia and Sierra Leone, the Mano River Union was expanded seven years later with the addition of Guinea. It was abandoned due to the civil wars in Liberia, from 1989 to 2003, and Sierra Leone, which pitted the nations against one another.

Liberia’s then-president Charles Taylor accused Guinean leader Conte of backing the LURD rebels in his country, while Kabbah said Taylor was funding and arming Sierra Leone’s RUF insurgents, notorious for their child soldiers who hacked limbs off civilians.

The Mano River Union was reactivated at a summit in 2004 but has since been undermined by ongoing border disputes.

US in sharp criticism direct towards the Norwegian Police

Posted by africanpress on May 3, 2007

US criticizes Norwegian police

A new US report on international terrorism doesn’t paint a very flattering picture of Norway’s anti-terrorism efforts.

The annual report charged Norwegian police with poor communication and poor use of information tied to terror investigations, according to Dagbladet.no and news bureau NTB.

The Norwegian anti-terrorism efforts are granted a short chapter in the report, produced annually by the US State Department.

The report noted that Norway’s anti-terrorism law was put to the test last year, when four persons were arrested in connection with shots fired at an Oslo synagogue. The four were also suspected of having planned terrorist attacks against the US and Israeli embassies in Oslo.

New investigative methods were used, according to the report, but it criticized internal communication within the police and called for improvements in how information about terrorist suspects is handled.

The report also raised concerns that the anti-terrorism law limits the definition of conspiracy, which could weaken the law’s effectiveness.

Iver Stensrud of the Oslo Police Districe told news bureau NTB that he wasn’t aware of the report.

Norway: May 1st speeches turned political

Posted by africanpress on May 3, 2007

Workers and activists marched in cities around Norway during the country’s annual labour day holiday on Tuesday, while politicians seized the opportunity to do some campaigning in advance of local fall elections.

Siv Jensen made her appeal on behalf of Norway’s most conservative party, the Progress Party.

Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg was also in Drammen to spread his message.

The sun shone brilliantly for the annual holiday in most of Norway’s cities, at least in the southern part of the country. That helped spark fairly large turnouts, as politicians ranging from the Labour Party’s Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg to the Progress Party’s Siv Jensen made their appeals.

Tradition calls for politicians from Norway’s left-leaning parties to fan out around the country and hold speeches on May 1st. Politicians from the conservative parties have been doing the same, and both Stoltenberg and Jensen chose to hold their appeals in Drammen on Tuesday.

Stoltenberg, who heads the country’s center-left government coalition, bragged about Norway’s record low unemployment rate and promised to battle social dumping.

He also made sure reporters got a piece of news: Stoltenberg vowed to introduce legislation that will allow shorter workdays for those over age 62, to discourage them from retiring in a tight labour market.

Jensen, meanwhile, made predictable taunts about leftist party politicians, and claimed life in Norway isn’t as good as they make it out to be. She noted that it’s not good social welfare politics to have long waiting lists for medical care, or patients lying in hospital corridors because of a lack of beds in more private rooms, for example.

The holiday brought out demonstration marches and parades in most cities, but Oslo’s didn’t have the strong union representation of years past, a reflection of the city’s industrial decline. The parade instead featured a long list of activist groups, and drew a small crowd along Karl Johans Gate.

Former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland has been named a special UN envoy for climate issues

Posted by africanpress on May 3, 2007

Former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland has been named a special UN envoy for climate issues, 20 years after she spearheaded a UN report on environmental threats.

Brundtland, a doctor by profession, went on to become head of the UN’s World Health Organization, but retired four years ago. Now she’s returning to the UN as a special environmental envoy along with Ricardo Lagos, a former president of Chile, and Han Seung-soo, former South Korean foreign minister.

The three will discuss environmental issues with heads of state around the world and contribute to UN efforts to accelerate international climate negotiations.

Brundtland, a veteran Labour Party politician in Norway, was a cabinet minister in charge of environment issues in the 1980s. She authored a report for the UN entitled “Our Common Future,” which is widely hailed as the impetus for international climate talks including the environmental summit meeting in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.

She was in Oslo last month for the Labour Party’s annual meeting, and said she would be proud to share the party’s own ambitious goals for reducing carbon emissions at a major UN meeting in May.

Jan Egeland, the former Norwegian is poised to head one of Norway’s premier think tank

Posted by africanpress on May 3, 2007

Jan Egeland, the former Norwegian diplomat who went on to be in charge of relief efforts for the UN, is poised to head one of Norway’s premier think tanks.

Jan Egeland will be the new head of NUPI in Oslo.

PHOTO: MORTEN HOLM / SCANPIX

Egeland, who recently resigned from his UN post after years of near-constant travel, will be the new director of the The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (Norsk Utenrikspolitisk Institutt, NUPI).

NUPI Chairman Kjetil Stuland cited Egeland’s “extraordinarily broad background” in both research, management, foreign policy and international work. Stuland said Egeland was “particularly well-suited” for the post, and would be an “exciting leader of the institute.”

Egeland, who succeeds Sverre Lodgaard as NUPI director, has also been named a special adviser to the new secretary general of the UN, Ban Ki-moon.

Egeland was active in Norway’s efforts to broker peace in the Middle East in the 1990s. He also has headed the Norwegian Red Cross and coordinated UN relief efforts after the devastating tsunami in December 2004.

NUPI bills itself as being devoted to research and information on international relations, politics and economics, focusing on areas especially relevant to Norwegian foreign policy.
