ODM-K branch planned to open in Oslo, Norway

Posted by africanpress on October 6, 2006

As reported earlier by Kenya Stockholm Blog and later by African Press - Norway, plans are underway to open ODM-K (Orange Democratic Movement of Kenya) Scandinavia chapter.

As a follow up, Mr Peter Ranginya, a Kenyan resident in Norway has now taken the initiative to organize ODM-K supporters and friends living in Norway to meet.

Mr Ranginya told African Press - Norway (APN) yesterday that he plans such a meeting to take place on 14th october in Oslo. He believes that a move to open ODM-K branches outside Kenya is a good thing for democracy in Kenya.

ODM-K wave is now strong outside Kenya and is causing panic within the circles of the ruling elite who are mainly Narc-K supporters. ODM-K is already in full swing in the US where Kenyans started ODM-K chapter recently.

Kenyans are yet to know if president Kibaki will run for re-election next year.

Ambassador Kinyanjui to leave Scandinavia

Posted by africanpress on October 6, 2006

When the new regime in Kenya posted Mr Kinyanjui as new ambassador to Scandinavia, it was for purposes of selling the new leadership after former president Moi.

Mr Kinyanjui, during his few visits to Norway was seen as a very quiet man who never talked much. However, when Prof Wangari Maathai won the Nobel Peace Prize, Kenyans in Norway got the opportunity to meet their new Scandinavia ambassador when he paid a visit to Norway in connection with the presentation of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Days before the Prize was to be presented, many Kenyans had the opportunity to hold discussions with Mr Kinyanjui in SAS hotel.

Interestingly, the ambassador would hold meetings with male Kenyans first, then women later and he finally chose single women to have the last audience with him.

Kenyans who were politically motivated at one time insisted to continue the meeting with him, but he chose to send them away in order to remain with single unmarried women in  his hotel room.

After the incident, Kenyans who were present did not want anything more to do with the embassy.

It is expected that diplomats visit capitals of the countries they are posted by the government as representatives and treat all Kenyans equally, but it was unfortunate because the then new ambassador favoured single women during his visits to Norway.

Mr Kiboi, who died recently in Norway followed the footsteps of his boss whenever he visited Norway.

Many Kenyans in Norway will be happy to see the end of Mr Kinyanjui’s reign in Scandinavia, while hoping the new ambassador will treat all Kenyans equally.

Unfortunately, Mr Kinyanjui may leave Scandinavia before the truth about the circumstances surrounding the death of his colleague Mr Kiboi will have come out.

The fact of the matter is that Mr Kinyanjui knew of the dangers Mr Kiboi was faced with and never cared to take steps to safe the situation. What he did best was to ask those who wanted to expose what happened to Mr Kiboi, with the help of the Norwegian police, to keep silent on the issue and stop the press conference that was to reveal the circumstances surrounding the late diplomat’s death.

ODM-Kenya branch opens in the US!

Posted by africanpress on October 6, 2006

According to the Kenya times, ODM-Kenya has taken a major step. ODM-K branch opens in the US ahead of the one planned to open in Scandinavia.

This is a major development ahead of general elections next year. Now that ODM-K has taken this step to allow opening of branches abroad, this development will encourage Kenyans in other countries to do the same.

The major issue now is whether the constituiton review committee will speed up changes so that Kenyans abroad will be able to vote in the coming elections.

The opening of such a branch is an indication that Kenyans are really for a total change in the running of the affairs of their country and would like to be involved even if they do not have residence in Kenya.

As an indication of seriousness, the Kenya times reports that “The meeting was attended by an aspirant for the Kibwezi parliamentary seat in next year’s general elections, Joseph Nduulu, who is currently visiting the US.”

The burning question now is whether Narc-K will follow suit by opening branches abroad.

The Ugandan story: Col. Kizza Besigye - Future president of Uganda?

Posted by africanpress on October 6, 2006

A medical doctor-turned guerrilla wanted to become the president of Uganda.

A cross section of Ugandans in Norway wanted to see Dr Besigye become president after he challenged President Museveni. Those who left Uganda due to oppression under Museveni regime looked up to the man who they thought was a choice that would bring freedom in their country. His election to be president, they thought, would end their exile life, but that was not to be the case this time. Museveni won the elections.

After his self-exiled life, Dr Besigye decided to travel back to Uganda and contest for presidency against sitting president Yoweri Museveni.

On his return to Uganda, the government brought charges against him. The question that many keep asking is whether the charges were genuine at all. He had to spend most of his time in the cells instead of leading his party in the campaigns.

He failed to be elected president.

The monitor is bringing a story of a man people know as guerrilla fighter turned-politician and we have decided to enable our readers follow the story of this unique man.

The monitor writes “The story does not draw conclusions, but it presents hitherto untold facts that will interest Ugandans, regardless of their political leanings.”

Press Release on The late Diplomat Kiboi’s mysterious death

Posted by africanpress on October 6, 2006

A press release on the circumstances surrounding the late diplomat Mr. Kiboi will be dispatched to the media on the 25th of october at 12 noon.

African Press - Norway (APN), is of the opinion that the interests of those groups advocating silence in the case must be ignored and the true picture surrounding his mysterious death be made public.

Although the next of kin may find the truth painful and very uncomfortable to handle, APN believes in justice and those involved in his mysterious death, if he was murdered must be made to come forward to answer the charges.
